Ideas for Christmas Decorating Whilst Renting

As crazy as it sounds, Christmas is only weeks away! It’s time to dig out those lights, the tree and all your ornaments out of the shed or the loft. Whether you live in a small flat or a spacious rental home, there are many ways you can get involved in the Christmas spirit to create a beautiful, cosy holiday display. Getting your home to look festive doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg!

Decorate a traditional tree

If you're unsure about garlands and ornaments, you can never go wrong with the traditional Christmas tree. Get a tree that you love and go to town with decorations, adorning it with a sprinkling of fairy lights, baubles and more, and top it with a beautiful star or angel.

If you’re in a smaller flat or home, consider a compact Christmas tree to save space – a 3 to 4-foot tree looks great whilst allowing plenty of room for presents.

Fill the house with ornate ornaments

Whilst you may not be able to hang things on the walls or pin things to doorways, you can always opt for ornaments! Miniature Christmas trees, shiny reindeer, and charming nativity scenes will create the traditional Christmas feel without upsetting your landlord.

Garlands

Bring the forest inside this winter by draping garlands of holly, ivy, and fir across fireplaces, and mirrors and even winding them through your bannister. Botanical displays around the home will instantly give off the smell and look of Christmas without damaging anything.

Scattering fairy lights around is another way to make your home cosy. Cascading them around your home looks amazing visually, you can brighten up the Christmas greenery in a lovely subtle way.

Paper Decorations

Remember in school when you were tasked to cutting out snowflakes and paper angels? Well now is a great time to put those skills to use; get out those craft scissors and design away to add an extra bit of Christmas to your home. Here are some of my favourite designs this Christmas.

Wintery Accessories

With just a few hours of daylight a day (and even those are clouded and drizzly) we all love wrapping up in a cosy blanket with a hot chocolate in a cushioned den. Accessorise your home this winter with Christmas-inspired cushions and blankets that will transform your sofa into a sanctuary.

Top it off with an amazing table display

We all spend a large amount of the big day around the dining table eating and drinking, so decorate tour table extravagantly. Add a centrepiece and compliment it with fancy napkins and ornaments for a truly beautiful banquet

How will you be decorating your home this Christmas?
